Coast Prickly-Pear T-shirt
$29.99
Bring home a piece of the museum collection with this simple yet comfy unisex T-shirt featuring an iconic cactus painting by A.R. Valentien. In 1908, the artist accepted a commission from local philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps to illustrate the botanical diversity of California. Over the next 10 years, he produced nearly 1,100 watercolor plant portraits of native wildflowers, grasses, ferns, trees, and cacti. The entire collection is now housed in The Nat’s Research Library.
The coast prickly-pear cactus (Opuntia littoralis) is one of the paintings in this collection. This sprawling cactus is found in the coastal sage scrub and chaparral. Its juicy red-purple fruits are edible once the spines are removed.
This T-shirt is 100% combed, ring-spun cotton and features The Nat logo and the artist’s signature on the inside label. It is sure to become a wardrobe staple.
