Beavertail Cactus Enamel Mug
Lightweight and durable, the enamel mug is a must-have for every devoted camper. Use it for your favorite beverage or a hot meal, and attach it to your bag for easy access on a hike. Ours is white with a silver rim and features a beavertail cactus (Opuntia basilaris) painted by botanical artist A.R. Valentien. This is just one of the artist’s nearly 1,100 wildflower paintings in The Nat’s special collection.
The flowers of the beavertail cactus get their vivid colors from a type of pigment known to only a few plant families. Although this cactus’ lack of spines give it a benign look, the cactus is well armored: thousands of hairlike spines—called glochids—appear in circular patches on the pale blue-green pads.
The mug is metal with an enamel layer and sublimation coating. Measures 3.14″ high x 3.25″ diameter. Not dishwasher or microwave safe (do not heat liquids or food directly in the mug—it can damage the coating). Hand-wash only.
